El Pinar De San Gines, La Azohia, Mazarron

Nearest town: Murcia (San Javier)

El Pinar de San Gines nestles behind lovely mature villas in the exclusive San Gines district of La Azohia on the lower slopes of the mountain, on what was pine forest. It is in an incredibly quiet & peaceful spot yet just a five minute walk through lovely residential avenues to the best part of the seafront & several restaurants. Built in traditional Andalucian ‘pueblo’ style, there are winding paths, lovely private gardens and swimming pools . The development itself is already taking on the air of a village within a village, and proving very popular with families as children can play safely.

This new modern apartment, (on the first floor of only two floors), is furnished and finished to a high standard. There is one double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and two further twin bedrooms. All three bedrooms have good sized built in wardrobes. There is a second bathroom which has a shower cubicle, sink and toilet.

The large lounge has its own balcony which provides an additional dining area. There are comfy leather sofas, and contemporary storage units house a colour TV and DVD player which also plays CDs.

The kitchen has all the modern appliances you would need for a relaxing holiday including oven, hob, extractor, fride/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.

The best feature of the property is the huge roof solarium which is approximately 65 square metres. From here there are panoramic, far reaching views of the sea and mountains. A great place to spend the evening with a glass of wine, watching the spectacular sunsets. Our latest addition is a gas barbecue so that guests can prepare food on the roof terrace, and maximise on the "al fresco" experience. Also on the solarium there is a large hardwood table with six chairs and a large gazebo for those days where a little shade is welcome. Additionally, there are four reclining sun loungers with comfy cushions.

The El Pinar de San Gines development in less than 500 metres from the beach. There are two communal swimming pools with a shower that are open all year.

If you are looking for a holiday in a part of Spain that has not been spoiled, where you can totally relax, and where the Spanish choose to holiday, then look no further. La Azohia is that place. This is really an area of outstanding natural beauty with lots to explore.

When heading South from the great stretches of beach around the Mar Menor lagoon, the coastline becomes increasingly mountainous with just occasional isolated coves. Once south of Cartagena the scenery becomes even more stunning. Half way between Cartagena & the bustling resort of Puerto Mazarron, there is a turning off the main road to the beautiful fishing village of La Azohia. The mountains finally recede behind a promontory called Cabo Tinoso, giving way again to vast stretches of beach which go all the way to Puerto Mazarron & beyond. The village is in a truly beautiful location, still closely bound by a backdrop of dramatic rugged scenery, which not only protects it from easterly winds but, perhaps more importantly, from further development.

La Azohia is a beautiful cove with a palm lined new promenade which stretches for approximately two miles, allowing a leisurely stroll on the flat. The cove is sheltered by mountains and the beach shelves gently into the crystal clear sea, which is warm all year round. Much prized by the Spanish the sea here is considered amongst the cleanest in Spain & has been granted blue flag status for many years. The deeper waters at Cabo Tinoso are known by divers far & wide for their colourful sea beds.

This little Spanish fishing village has a small pier from which you can watch the fishing boats delivering their daily catch. Further out to sea, you can see the huge nets and cages where tuna are farmed. Anyone who enjoys fishing from the sea shore will be in their element. Locals can be seen every day fishing off the beach with their rods.

There are a few bars and restaurants in La Azohia serving local dishes and produce, a bodega, mini-market and pharmacy. The resort also boasts four diving schools and canoes, quad bikes, and bicycles can be hired locally.

The 4 star La Azohia hotel has an olympic size swimming pool, gym, spa and beauty parlour which can be used (payable locally).

A five minute drive will take you to the little resort of Isla Plana where there are more restaurants, bars, shops and a bank.

Ten minutes away will find you in the bustling port of Mazarron. Shops, pavements cafes, and bars are abundant here, an ideal place for young and old alike. The tree lined promenade is a favourite place for families to take an evening stroll, and watch the sun go down.

Further afield, approximately 30 minutes drive, is the famous port of Cartegena. Here you will see enormous cruise ships docking on a daily basis to enjoy the rich history of the port. The area has wonderful architecture and very classy shops, many vibrant squares, and well worth exploring.

Inland there are many places to visit, including the holy city of Caravaca de la Cruz. Travelling through orange, lemon, and olive groves, you will discover many jewels off the beaten track.

The region of Murcia is locally known at the "Market Garden of Spain as it grows all kinds of salad vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts, rice and grapes. The governing bodies, the Town Halls, in this region are anxious to protect the national heritage of their mountains, salt lakes, beaches and grasslands and have allocated huge areas to be reserved as National and Regional Parks. Having learned lessons from costas on each side of the region, they will not allow building at the expense of the local flora, fauna and quality of life.

Activies in the area include Scuba Diving, Snorkelling, Golf, Quad Biking, Cycling, Hill Walking, Rock Climbing, Swimming, Canoeing, Wind Surfing, Fishing, Boat Trips, Horse Riding, Bird Watching, Tennis.

For the less energetic there are many Fiestas, Jazz Festivals and Rock Concerts. Explore geographical and historic sites, see the oldest submarine in the world on show in Cartagena.
